Path to Geometric Abstraction

About

In the early 1960s, Jorge Riveros's work, until then very close to Abstract Expressionism, underwent a profound transformation, a change that led him to a rigorous assimilation of avant-garde constructivist geometry, acquiring a distinct identity by incorporating the aesthetics and symbolism of pre-Hispanic cultures. Thus, Riveros's work, already marked by full abstraction and rigorous geometry, transcends the simple search for formal order to enter a realm of contrasts. In his exploration of the relationships between lines and surfaces, content and form, color and light, the artist constructs a visual universe that, although seemingly balanced, reveals an underlying energy in perpetual renewal; His monochromatic surfaces, dominated by primary colors such as black, white, blue, and red, combined with a vibrant application of pictorial material, generate a dynamic that suggests movement. They convey a constant dialogue between the precise structure of geometry and the emotionality emanating from its textures. Riveros invites the viewer to look beyond the apparent calm of his compositions. The careful and calculated lines interact with the colors in a play of attraction that reflects an internal world. An art that, far from being limited to contemplation, demands the observer's active participation. This exhibition proposes an approach to this intrinsic duality in Riveros's work and invites us to explore the inherent tension between geometric precision and the freedom of abstraction. A constant back and forth defines Jorge Riveros's visual language. His work navigates between structural rigor and the vitality of matter, between the control of form and the spontaneity of color. This dynamic balance creates a space where the rational and the intuitive coexist, giving rise to compositions that transcend the visual to become sensorial and emotional experiences.   .
